Welcome to the Great Guys Tool Chest: 12 Practical Tools for Men
Welcome to the Great Guys Tool Chest: 12 practical tools for men who want better choices and stronger relationships. Learn how each tool works through three simple steps: Understand it, Use it, Live it.
Practical tools. Better choices. Stronger relationships.
Something Could Be Better
Maybe you’re tired of the same arguments. Maybe you feel misunderstood, disconnected, or frustrated with yourself. Maybe life is going pretty well, but you want to become a better partner, friend, father—or simply feel better about the man you are.
Welcome to Great Guys. We Have the Tools.
Great Guys begins with a simple belief: Inside Every Good Man Is a Great Guy. We help men put that possibility into practice through tools for understanding themselves, making thoughtful choices, and building stronger relationships.
You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. You just need a willingness to notice what could be better and try something different.
What Is the Great Guys Tool Chest?
The Great Guys Tool Chest brings together 12 practical tools for everyday life. Drawing on lessons from respected teachers, personal experience, and our own work rebuilding relationships, we’ve created a collection you can return to whenever you need direction.
Some tools help you understand patterns from your past. Others help you pause before reacting, build closeness, question an old belief, forgive yourself, or make amends that lead to lasting change.
Think of an ordinary toolbox. You reach for a different tool depending on what needs attention. Our Tool Chest works the same way.
Fix. Rebuild. Strengthen.
You don’t need every tool today. Just know which one to reach for when you need it.
How Do the Tools Work?
Knowing something and using it are different experiences. You may know that listening matters—and still interrupt when you feel defensive. You may want to let go of a grudge—and keep replaying the same story.
The tools give you something practical to do in those moments.
Each blog will introduce one tool through three simple steps:
Understand It
Discover what the tool means, what it helps you notice, and when it might be useful.
Use It
See how to put it into practice through an everyday situation and a clear action you can try.
Live It
Take one small exercise into your own life. Practice until a better choice becomes more familiar.
For example, when a conversation gets heated, the Reframe tool can help you pause, examine your interpretation, and choose a response. When someone you love feels unheard, the 5 A’s can help you explore what creates connection. When you’ve hurt someone, Amends can help you move from saying sorry to changing your behavior.
What Does It Mean to Become a Great Guy?
Being a Great Guy means practicing curiosity, accountability, and empathy—even when it takes effort.
It means noticing your reactions, owning your part, and becoming more willing to listen. It means repairing what you can and learning from what happened.
We call this “Living in My Adult”: meeting life with greater awareness and choosing how you respond.
Every day gives us another opportunity to practice. A difficult conversation. A disappointment. A mistake. A chance to show someone we care.
One Blog. One Tool. One Step Forward.
In this series, we’ll open the Tool Chest one tool at a time. Each post will offer a clear explanation, a real-life example, and a small way to begin using the tool yourself.
Start with what speaks to your life today.
What Could Be Better?
Keep that question in mind as you explore. It may point you toward the first tool you need.
Welcome to Great Guys. Let’s tool up—and help good happen.
