Don't pursue happiness or happier

There are many articles recently declaring the pursuit of happiness to be counter benevolent.

I believe we must pursue unhappiness. Pursue as in chase, hunt down, corral, bring in. We cannot be happier if we aren’t happy. We cannot be happy if we are unhappy. When unhappy, the pursuit of happiness is nothing more than an attempt at less unhappy. Those attempts often end poorly. Often worse off.

So, pursue unhappiness: the guilt, shame, sorrow, fear, anxiety. The past wounds that are all too present sabotaging fulfillment. Loosen their grip. We may never be free of them. However, we can learn how to better live with them. They can still be on the bus and even serve a worthwhile purpose there. But, they mustn’t be driving the bus.

If I am going to have happiness find me, a conscious, aware adult must be driving my bus
